About The department
The Economics department was started in Sitalkuchi College in the year 2014. At the initial stage, General Course (B.A.) of Economics was offered under the University of North Bengal. Later on, Sitalkuchi College was affiliated to Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University in 2015. Now the department of Economics at Sitalkuchi College teaches the syllabus designed by the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University. The new syllabus under choice based credit system introduced by the university in 2017, offer an introductory treatment of economic theory with some discussion of policy applications and economic institutions. The courses has been designed to develop and sharpen skills of analysis, logical reasoning, interpretation and understanding of various economic issues in our everyday lives.

The department also endeavours to excel in maintaining a project oriented and socially committed environment striving for all round development of the students.
The department is committed to create a strong academic environment by promoting and supporting quality in teaching. We aim to prepare our students for successful careers, to inculcate strong foundation and concept of economics in our students, with extensive teacher-student interactions and maintaining a friendly and supportive environment for all the students.
