About The department

মানুষকে মানুষের মূল্য দিতে চেয়ে সেই কোন আদিকাল থেকে নীরবে সারাবে হেটে আসছে মানুষের মিছিল.
On past September 1999, in spite of the limitations and constraints of achieving the noble pursuit of enlightenment towards perfection, SitalkuchiCollege, the pioneer of higher educational institution located in the rural area of Sitalkuchi block in the district of Cooch Behar and in the boundary line of Bangladesh, started its endless voyage with the great expectations of fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of the marginalized and weaker sections of the society belonging to this region. Among the six subjects with which the philanthropists of the local community tried to make their journey, Bengali language and literature played the pivotal role to realize their sublime goal.

Department Notice

Due to the location of the college being just 2.5 kilometers away from the international border, most of the students in the Bengali department are the first generation learners who come from the extremely poor family. Most of them belong to the SC, OBC B and minority community and take admission to study in this department coming from various places like Sitalkuchi, Sitai, Mathabhanga 1 and Mathabhanga 2, etc. Although Bengali language and literature was introduced as a general subject since the establishment of the college in 1999, it has been offered as an honours subject from 2008. The department started its journey with 30 seats as honours subjects and at present there are 87 seats approved by Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University. The department has been able to give opportunities to enter into the threshold of higher education for the students who come from the economically disadvantaged or impoverished family.

In addition to the traditional classroom teaching learning- process, the department always look forward to organize different cultural events and observance day, such as,Pochishe Baishakh (Rabindra Janmajayanti), Baishe Shraban ( Rabindra Tirodhan Dibash), Shikhhak Dibash, Basanta Utsab, etc. Apart from these, to make the students acquainted with the root of the folk culture, the department also catered to the various indoors and outdoors games related to folk culture of Cooch Behar district. The main purpose behind arranging such events is to sustain and make the local culture popular since globalization is working as a cultural eraser which is a threat to such folk culture. To make the students updated so that they do not get lagged behind in taking admission in different universities at the national level, the department organizes different academic activities like departmental student seminars, group discussions, etc. To ensure quality education among the weaker students in general and scheduled caste students and minority students in particular, the department arranges tutorial classes, remedial classes, special classes, etc. For the sake of creating a smooth and amicable academic environment, the department lends text and reference books among the students from the departmental library. Every year, the department is also untiringly and religiously publishing ‘Matrabhasha Sankhya’ and ‘Sharad Shankhya’ under the departmental wall magazine entitled “Suptorthita” to promote creative thinking and to nourish and bloom the latent talents among the students.

In every academic year, approximately 20-25 students from this department get an opportunity to take admission in a PG course in various renowned and prestigious universities of the country, such as, Jadavpur University, Visva Bharati University, Banaras Hindu University, Aliah University, North Bengal University, Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, Raiganj University and the like. Many students from the department have successfully passed National level examinations like NET, SET, TET, etc. Recently in the NET examination, Afroja Khatun, the student of this department, secured the first position bringing pride to the department and the college. With such great achievement, it can be expected that, in the near future, they will establish themselves as professors or educators in any department (government or non government) and contribute to the welfare of the country and its people.

Currently, the Bengali department is working with two Permanent Professors and six State Aided College Teachers (SACT) to provide quality education among the students. Overall, the Bengali department is always vigilant and active in providing enlightened education to ignite the students to become more humane and sensitive individuals who can contribute to the service of the nation with self motivation.
