Dear Viewer
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the website of our College. On behalf of Team Sitalkuchi College, I appreciate your interest in this flourishing institution of higher education that came into being on 1st September,1999. The College is recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC Act,1956. It was affiliated to the University of North Bengal from 1st September,1999 to 29th July, 2015. Since 30th July, 2015 it is affiliated to the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University.
The committed task of the College to provide quality higher education has always been challenging as its catchment area is a remote rural region spread along the Indo-Bangladesh border of two educationally backward blocks of Sitai and Sitalkuchi in the district of Cooch Behar, W.B. inhabited mostly by people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections.
The Team Sitalkuchi College is inspired by the dictum of the Report of the Education Commission of 1964-1966: Education and National Development, ‘The destiny of India is now being shaped in her class rooms. In a world based on science and technology, it is education that determines the level of prosperity, welfare and security of the people. On the quality and number of persons coming out of our schools and colleges will depend our success in the great enterprise of national reconstruction whose principal objective is to raise the standard of living of our people’ (p.1). In the same vein the National Education Policy 2020 states: ‘Education is fundamental for achieving full human potential, developing an equitable and just society, and promoting national development. Providing universal access to quality education is the key to India’s continued ascent, and leadership on the global stage in terms of economic growth, social justice and equality, scientific advancement, national integration, and cultural preservation’ (p.3).
Education is not confined to a particular phase of life. It is for this reason that the concept of life long education is in vogue now. The Report of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century (1996) has identified four pillars of education: learning to know; learning to do; learning to live together and learning to be (p.86). It is not that a higher education institution is concerned with any or all these aspects of education. It is a matter of degree that comes on its way which aspect is to be emphasized.
The Context of Sitalkuchi College as a higher education institution makes it an imperative upon it that it gets all its students prepared in all aspects of education. Within only two decades of its journey, it has proved its sincerity in achieving this goal. The joint effort of Team Sitalkuchi College has overcome most of the hurdles on its way, specially its locational disadvantage.
Our College is committed to providing a high-quality education to our students, and we believe in creating an environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning We provide different facilities to students which include well-equipped classrooms, practical labs, Virtual Class Room, Seminar room, departmental libraries and a central library. Our library is well-stocked with the latest books and journals with spacious reading facility. Our campus is also home to a range of clubs and societies, which provide students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, explore new interests, and make learning a passion for life. As the world becomes more complex and interconnected, by the processes of globalization, we understand the importance of preparing our students for the challenges of the 21st century. We also have a range of sports and recreational facilities, including a gymnasium. Community engagement and service is another important aspect where we are embedded through our three NSS Units. For the soothing impact on young minds we have designed a beautifully landscaped green campus.
We appreciate the observation of national Education Policy 2020 that ‘The most important factor in the success of higher education institutions is the quality and engagement of its faculty’ (p.40) The group of bright and young members of the faculty and non-teaching staff are very committed to the core values of the institution. It is they along with the enthusiastic members of the management who have brought the College to its prestigious present position struggling hard against the hurdles of formative years. The journey from a tin shed housed with 70 students in 1999 to a three-winged three storied building with a strength of more than three thousand students is worth to be proud of.
I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our college. Whether you are a prospective student, a guardian, a researcher, policy maker, a current student, or an alumnus, I believe you will find that our college is a welcoming and supportive community that is dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.
